Your Pro Source for Autodesk Smoke on Mac Training sale – frequently asked questions

Yes, the site is up for sale.

I set up this page to answer some frequently asked quesions about the sale of the site, the business, and all of the assets.

How much are you selling it for?

I don’t really know quite yet. Email me at sensei (at) if you have any ideas of what you would be willing to buy it for.

There are some automated sites you can plug a URL into to find out how much as site is “worth” based on different SEO factors… but that doesn’t take into account the email list, the assets, and the other stuff. It’s not monetized yet (i’m not counting the amazon affiliate links, which have not brought in very much), so valuing it on the basis of what it brings in money-wise doesn’t apply here. Also, while I’ve put hundreds of hours into the site, I’m not really counting that, since it’s really just worth what somebody’s willing to pay for it.

How much money is it pulling in?

Nothing, as of yet. There are some Amazon affiliate links that you may find on the site, but those have not really brought in much (less than $100) over the life of the site. I put them on as an afterthought, I don’t promote them at all. But it wouldn’t take much to monetize the site with a course or templates or something like that. And if you drive traffic to some kind of sales page with a targeted ad or something, you would probably get some pretty targeted and intentional buyers, since Smoke is a higher price point piece of software and is in a very specific niche.

What is the site’s ranking?

This is one area the site has definite, provable value… it’s currently ranked third on Google for the primary keyword phrase “smoke tutorials.” And this is with virtually NO activity or updates by me in over half a year! At my most active point over a year ago, it ranked first for awhile… that’s when I was actively contributing. But to be third, with no updates, and considering Google’s search engine updates (called “Penguin” and “Panda” for you web-savvy users) didn’t hurt these rankings at all, is pretty crazy! Furthermore, it ranks even higher than, Premiumbeat, and Digital Tutors for this keyword. I do get the bulk of the traffic to the site organically through google search, there is some from Bing and Yahoo and other sources too. I don’t know how well it does with similar keywords, but that’s something you can easily find out.

How much traffic does the site get? gets about 800-900 monthly visits, according to my analytics page on the site. At its highest point, the daily visitor number was 135. I don’t know if those were unique visitors or the same visitor viewing several pages. The following image shows a snapshot of my analytics page. I’m happy to share any stats you would like to see.

What are the assets specifically that are up for sale?

1. The Website domain name and the site itself.

The site is hosted with Bluehost, on their shared hosting basic service, and I can move the site and domain to any location you wish. I am also willing to just leave the site where it is, and turn over the hosting account, I would just have to figure out the best way to get my other websites out of there (I have a few other sites on the same hosting account as subdomains.)

2. The social media channels.

This includes Twitter, Facebook, and the YouTube channel. There are 93 Twitter followers. There are six Youtube Videos that are tutorials and the channel has 63 subscribers.

3. The email addresses and the email list.

The email list is a free MailChimp account and it has 160 subscribers. (You’re probably one of them!) These subscribers have all double-opted in to the mailing list through my free link to download five free setups for the Smoke software.

4. All of the digital graphic assets.

I have a number of files that were used to create all the many graphic assets, including Photoshop/Illustrator files, Smoke setups, video files, and image sequences with alpha channels. There are also assets (like the template download) that are hosted on Amazon’s S3 service.

Will you be available to help get the stuff transferred?

I will be available personally to transfer the assets to whatever accounts you need, and to help you get the stuff set up on your end, for up to four weeks after the sale. That should be plenty of time to get the business over to you, such as it is.
